Press Release: Tram Sunday Retain Main Sponsor

CHRIS ALLEN GARAGES LTD sponsor Tram Sunday for a second year.

Agreement has recently been reached by the Tram Sunday Committee & Chris Allen Garages Ltd for a second consecutive year of sponsorship of Tram Sunday 2012, which will be held on Sunday 15th July this year.

The news was presented by the chairman Robert Brown at a Tram Sunday Committee meeting last Thursday and was received with great delight by the members. “This will ensure the sound financial footing required to move forward with this year’s event”, said Mr Brown. Chris Allen Garages Ltd have seen the commercial value that this huge event brings to the town, the committee are extremely grateful for the confidence and generous backing given to us by this local company.

Tram Sunday is recognised as one of the most important events in the whole of the North West of England bringing transport lovers and day trippers to Fleetwood’s town centre for a FREE family day out. Restored to profit last year, after a year of absence and despite the worst weather in its long history, it is set to remain a jewel in the towns crown for many years to come. Derek Eaton, Chairman of Fleetwood Chamber of Trade & Commerce said he was delighted with the news of the sponsorship, especially for the town’s traders.

Training Award for Marshalls

The Tram Sunday Committee, currently seeking Marshalls and First Aiders for this year’s event, is introducing a training scheme with an award for completion of a short seminar in crowd and vehicle management. The award will be presented by the committee and could be used to show competence for other events which require Marshalling. The training will be in two parts, Health & Safety and Crowd & Vehicle control. Anyone interested in becoming a Tram Sunday Marshall should contact Robert Brown on 07946537950 or by email to brown-robert22@sky.com. Also required are First Aiders who are practically capable of administering first line Aid in the event of an accident.

Welcome from The Chairman

May I extend a warm welcome from the organising committee to all who visit this website. Fleetwood Festival of Transport which is unofficially, and traditionally, known as “Tram Sunday” will take place this year on 15th July, 10am- 4pm.

The event extends throughout most of the town of Fleetwood with its unique street tramway now upgraded to accommodate the new generation of trams which will be serving Fleetwood from April onwards. Most of the community, its residents, businesses, charities, an army of volunteers and vehicle enthusiasts work together to create something of interest for the whole family all in one huge, free event.

This year we are hosting the Leyland to Fleetwood road run for the second time and this in itself brings many historic commercial vehicles, buses and cars to complement our own regular exhibitors. Well over 200 vehicles are expected ranging from steam vehicles almost a century old to modern day classics. Many visitors will be able to say, ” my Dad had a car like that”, or “I used to go to school on a bus like that”.

We are expecting some of the older trams to be around on the day and of course the new Flexcity trams will be in service from Blackpool to Ash Street Fleetwood. The steam carousel will be here along with other fairground rides, miniature railway, dancers, bands, performers, and countless other forms of entertainment.

There will be dozens of stalls including many selling transport related items and bus models alongside other trade, charity and local stalls.

If you are intending to visit you will be very welcome and don’t forget to buy a programme with all the details of our event on the day. The reasonable cost will be a great help to our volunteers who have to pay out several thousand pounds each year to ensure the roads are closed and our visitors and exhibitors are kept safe.

Please contact us if you are interested in exhibiting your vehicle, running a stall or helping as a volunteer.

See you in July.
